Lionel School win inter-school Badminton Competition
|
Congratulations
to the Lionel School badminton team of Deborah Acton, Isabella Blakey,
Stephen Boyd, Justin Cupit, Kathryn Offer, Allan Macdonald, Mary Anne
Macleod, Eilidh Maciver, Neil Morrison and John Ross Murray for a clean
sweep at the inter-school badminton competition held on Tuesday 28th
February in the Sports Centre. The Lionel School team has now won this
competition for the sixth successive year. |

Parent Teacher Association and Pupil Council Valentine's Disco
|
This disco was run by the Pupil Council and
the PTA jointly on Friday 17 February, raising just over £140. Thank
you all very much. |

Scottish Schools Football Association - Coca Cola sevens
|
A boys' team and a girls' team attended this
competition at Ross County, Dingwall on 30,31 January 2006. While the
girls' team lost some of their games, the boys' team were unbeaten in their
tournament - unfortunately, the boys drew all their games 0-0, and so also
narrowly failed to get into the second round of the Coca Cola 7s. We
would like to thank the adults who accompanied the teams to Dingwall. |

Auction - school enterprise project
|
This fund-raising auction enterprise activity
was run as part of winter term Homework Club activities by Mr K Smith and
secondary pupils, raising the sum of over £2400. This money was
divided between Bethesda, a local hospice charity, and the planned school
trip to France in May 2006. We would like to thank everyone who
contributed towards this magnificent effort, as organisers, donors of
prizes, or as bidders. |

Christmas Concert
|
Our annual show attracted a (very) full house
for the entertainment of our local community, and beyond. Thank you
all very much for the hard work by the pupils and staff of the school, and
for the support by parents and friends of the school. It is hoped to
produce a DVD of the concert in aid of school funds. |

SSBU Highland Badminton Championship
|
Pupils from
Lionel School enjoyed a successful tournament in Inverness, despite Stephen
Boyd and Philip Acton being unable to travel due to the ferry being
stormbound, winning the following prizes:

Make a Difference Day!
|
Make a Difference Day aims to showcase the
work carried out in communities by those who enjoy working on behalf of
others on a voluntary basis, and to give pupils experience of doing such
activities for part of a day. Ms A Macdonald, together with other
volunteer staff, organised activities by Secondary pupils, such as tree
planting beside Loch Stiapabhat, and entertainment and tea at Taigh
Dhonnchaidh. Ms Joan Morrison of the Volunteer Centre concluded a
rewarding afternoon, together with Isles FM volunteers Joyce Murray and
Kenny Macleod. |

Fire Brigade Competition
|
Congratulations to Lyndsay Macdonald and
Martin Nicolson for winning first prizes in this art competition run by the
Ness Fire Brigade. |

Assisted Self Evaluation by CNES
|
The Education Department conducted an Assisted Self Evaluation of Lionel
School during the week 5-9 September. The draft report published in
November shows that the school attained scores of Excellent, Very Good or
Good in the various categories - no Adequate, Weak or Unsatisfactory levels
were recorded. |

Broadbay 5-a-side Football Tournament - Secondary
|
Two Lionel
School S1 5-a-side boys' teams, two Lionel School S2 5-a-side boys' teams
and a girls' 5-a-side team participated in this Lewis and Harris
competition. The teams enjoyed various levels of success, with the best
performance coming from the S1 Lionel A team, who were narrowly beaten in
the final by penalties. Congratulations to all the Lionel School teams
for having played so well in the tournament. |

competition. The best performance came from the Lionel A team, who narrowly
lost in the semi-final to the eventual winners. Congratulations to
Carloway, and well done to the Lionel teams for having played so well in the
tournament. |

Lionel School Board Sale of Work
|
We would like to thank everyone involved in making our sale of work such a
success on Saturday 29 October.
Home baking, a
fancy dress competition, local produce, various raffles and the sale of
videos and DVDs all contributed to the total.
£1005 was raised for school funds. |

|
Pupils from Lionel School gained all the top
three places in the Scottish Natural Heritage Art competition, taught by Mrs

The Pupil Council election was held on the afternoon of Friday 30 September.

Raising money for school funds
|
The PTA organised bag packing in the Coop store in Stornoway on Friday 2
September. Thank you very much to all who were able to help with the
fund-raising, when £431 was raised to help with school funds. We would
also like to thank the Coop for their cooperation and support. |

Sponsored Walk
|
The annual Sponsored Walk to raise money for school funds took place this year on
Tuesday
31 August. There is a prize for the pupil who collects the most
sponsorship money every session, to be presented at the annual School Prizegiving. |

Primary teaching appointment
