Scottish Schools Football Association - Coca Cola sevens
 

Lionel School entered a boys' and a girls' team into this SSFA tournament, with the first round held for the first time in Stornoway.  Both teams performed very well, with the boys retiring undefeated from the competition for the second year in succession.


Scotland School Swimming Championship
 

Kathryn Offer, Angela Maciver and Eilidh Maciver from Lionel School Swimming Club enjoyed a successful championship in Glasgow on 27 January, although they did not manage to win any medals in the national competition this time.


Christmas Concert
 

Our annual show attracted a (very) full house for the entertainment of our local community - and we had a premature end due to a power cut!  Thank you very much for the hard work by the pupils and staff of the school, and for the support by parents and friends of the school.  It is hoped to produce a DVD of the concert in aid of school funds.

North of Scotland School Swimming Championship
 

Pupils from the Lionel School swimming club enjoyed a very successful championship in Inverness, winning the following prizes:

Gold (200m Individual Medley)       
Gold (100m Backcrawl)                
Silver (100m Breaststroke)            
Silver (100m Breaststroke)            
Silver (Relay Team)                          
                                                  


Broadbay 5-a-side Football Tournament - Secondary
 

Two Lionel School S1 5-a-side boys' teams, two Lionel School S2 5-a-side boys' teams and a girls' 5-a-side team participated in this Lewis and Harris competition.  The teams enjoyed various levels of success, with the best performance coming from the S2 Lionel A team, who were narrowly beaten in the final.  Congratulations to all the Lionel School teams for having played so well in the tournament.


Broadbay 5-a-side Football Tournament - Primary
 

Two Lionel School 5-a-side boys' team participated in this Lewis and Harris competition.  The best performance came from the Lionel A team, who narrowly lost in the semi-final to the eventual winners.  Congratulations to Carloway, and well done to the Lionel teams for having played so well in the tournament.


Lionel School Board Sale of Work
 

We would like to thank everyone involved in making our sale of work such a success on Saturday 29 October.  Home baking, a fancy dress competition, local produce, various raffles and the sale of videos and DVDs all contributed to the total.  £1200 was raised for school funds.


Appointment of Ms Careen Macmillan
 

We would like to wish Ms Careen Macmillan well as she begins teaching at Lionel School Home Economics Department this session.


Retirement of Mrs Ina Macritchie
 

A dinner was held on 29 September in the Royal Hotel, Stornoway, in honour of Mrs Ina Macritchie who retired from teaching.


Pupil Council Election
 

The Pupil Council election was held on the afternoon of Friday 29 September.  The following pupils were elected:

Ceitlin Maciver, Ross Morrison as Primary representatives.
Angela Macleod, Lewis Spence as Secondary representatives.


Parents' Evening - Sex and Health workshop
 

Parents were invited to an evening sex and health workshop on Tuesday 19 September, with representatives from the Education Department and Health Board in attendance, in addition to Lionel School teachers.


Raising money for school funds
 

The PTA organised bag packing in the Somerfield store in Stornoway on Saturday 16 September.  Thank you very much to all who were able to help with the fund-raising, and we would also like to thank the Coop for their cooperation and support.

Sponsored Walk
 

The annual Sponsored Walk to raise money for school funds took place this year on Tuesday 29 August, raising £1200 for school funds.  There is a prize for the pupil who collects the most sponsorship money every session, to be presented at the annual School Prizegiving.
