Dun Eistean

Dun Eistean is an Island just off the shore in Knockaird in Ness, right in between Port of Ness and the Butt of Lewis. Taking a small bridge across the gap between the Island and Ness you will almost feel like you have walked into a land of peace. While you listen to the birds you can admire the scenery of the sunset in winter or in summer you can watch the sea and admire the scenery.

Dun Eistean used to be the hide out for the Ness Morrisons while they were battling the Uig Macaulays.  Cnoc Fianuis was their look-out point where they could see for miles around.  They would send a few men to keep a look-out, and if they were to come running back it was because their arch-enemies the Macaulays were coming.  They would all immediately go onto the Island and hide.  With the Macaulays still on the land, the Morrisons would wait until they were heading home before attacking.
