Lionel School constantly
strives to improve all the facilities for community and school use.

Lionel aerial photograph
- this photo shows the layout of the school very well, set in the beautiful
machair land of Ness, adjacent to the famous Traigh Shanndaidh surfing beach
at Eoropie. Other aerial photos can be seen at the
Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar website

 |
Community Centre
- a £2 million community centre called
Sporsnis is
currently planned adjacent to Lionel School, with building scheduled to
begin in 2003. This will provide state-of-the-art facilities for all
indoor games, a new culture and heritage room, community fitness room, climbing wall, 10-pin bowling, and community conference and
life long
learning facilities. |
| |
The following facilities are already
available on site, for use by the community and school.
|
 |
School Entrance
- the entrance to the school has been recently
re-modelled and refurbished, providing a welcoming aspect to all our
visitors. |
 |
Cafeteria
- the school dining hall recently received a
commendation from the 'Scottish Healthy Choices Award'
scheme. Several choices of food courses are available daily for diners
from the community and school, all for very reasonable prices. |
 |
Swimming Pool
- our swimming pool is available for use by the
school during the day, and by the community in the evening. Every
year, our school swimmers achieve distinction for themselves and the school
by winning numerous awards at local and national championships. |
 |
Library -
our school library is well equipped with
computers with internet access, Gaelic learning materials and a Careers
Library. Plans exist for expanding the library to make it into a true
community library catering for all age ranges. |
 |
Community Connect
Computer Network - the school has a Local Area Network, running
from a 'Research Machines Community Connect'
server. Every classroom has at least one computer with internet access, and
our main computer suite has digital projection facilities, A3 colour
printing, and a colour scanner. |
 |
Floodlit All Weather
Court - an all-weather games court ensures that
5-a-side football, basketball etc can take place at any time - the court is
flood-lit for use in the evening. Lionel School took part with some
distinction this year in the 'Scottish Schools
Football Championships (SSFA)' in Inverness. |
 |
Tennis Court
- our second all-weather area is used for
tennis, with a full sized court available for use, mainly during the summer
months. However, this court can also be used for 5-a-side football,
basketball etc. |
 |
Snooker - Lionel School has a 'wet-weather games'
policy, whereby snooker, table football, table tennis, badminton, volleyball
and 5-a-side football are made available to pupils on a supervised basis if
outside play is ever curtailed by inclement weather. |
 |
Table Tennis
- table tennis is one of the indoor games
available whenever the weather is too bad to go outside. |
 |
Football Field
- the school football field is adjacent to the
school, with organised training taking place on it regularly. We also
have access to the Ness Football Club pitch if the occasion demands. |
