The Lionel
School Health and Safety policy subsumes that of
Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar,
which itself is based on a legal guide specifically researched, designed
and written for Head Teachers in Scotland called the
Greens Scottish Education Manual.

So
far as is reasonably practicable, all school staff have the duty and
responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act to take care of
their own health and safety, as well as that of others who may be affected
by their acts or omissions. Staff also have the duty to co-operate in the
operation of these arrangements which are made in the interests of their
health and safety.
Our policy is to provide and
maintain safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and systems of
work for all school staff, and to provide such information, training and
supervision as they need for this purpose. We also recognise and
accept our responsibility for the health and safety of pupils and of other
people who may visit the premises or be otherwise affected by our
activities.
We intend to achieve continuing improvement in our health safety
arrangements. To that end we shall review this policy and the way in which
it operates on an ongoing basis.
The allocation of tasks and duties for health
and safety matters and the particular arrangements which we will make to
implement this policy are set out below.
The main sections of the Health and
Safety policy are as follows:
